Think your boiler might be starting to break down? Or want to know what signs to look out for in future? Keep reading to find out the common signs that suggest your boiler needs looking at. If you have noticed any of the following signs in your home, give our team of gas engineers a call!
1. No hot water
This is the most common boiler problem and can be caused by a lot of different issues. We recommend you to bleed your radiators and, if the problem persists, call our team out to take a look.
Leaks from your boiler can lead to other problems, such as mould or water damage so should be sorted as soon as possible. You can create a temporary fix with a towel or bucket to reduce any further damage.
This is when your boiler is making a hissing sign, similar to a boiling kettle. It is caused by water that can't flow freely, so the water overheats and begins to boil.
4. Pilot light goes out
We recommend you never try to relight the pilot light yourself, as it is usually caused by a gas problem- and gas and an open flame to not mix well. Call our team as soon as you can to get it sorted for you.
5. Low pressure
If the pressure reads below 1, your boiler pressure is too low. You can try repressuring the system yourself, but it may be a sign of other problems is the pressure drops shortly after.
6. Frozen condensate pipe
You can thaw the pipe with hot towels or a hot water bottle but, if the problem returns, you should get in touch with our team. As always, if you don't feel comfortable thawing the pipe yourself, our team will be happy to help.
7. Thermostat issues
Simple issues can cause your thermostat to be inaccurate, so check everything before you invest in a new one. We recommend you check it is switched on and is set to the correct settings, as it can easily be knocked or altered accidentally.
8. Strange sounds
Any sounds such as banging, whistling or gurgling, indicate a fault somewhere with your boiler, and you should get it looked at as soon as you can.
9. Radiators don't heat up
If you have bled your radiators and they still don't heat up, we recommend you get your system power flushed by our team. This is a quick and easy way to get rid of all the sludge and dirt build up inside.
10. Boiler switches itself off
This can be caused by any of the above problems but, if you still are unsure of the cause, give our team a call and we will be happy to take a look.
