Your boiler is a wonderful thing, but wouldn’t it be better if you could make it work more efficiently? Efficient boilers perform better, heating your home faster and saving you money because they use less energy to do so.
At Home Heating UK, we’re boiler specialists, and have shared the following tips to help you get the very best out of your boiler.
Have your boiler serviced annually
An annual boiler service is one of the best things you can do for your boiler. It helps keep it healthy and working as efficiently as possible thanks to a thorough internal clean and the inspection of all the main parts of your boiler. A service is also an opportunity to spot issues as they emerge, before they become major problems that can cause your boiler to break down and leave you out of pocket.
Bleed your radiators
If your radiators take a while to heat up, they may need bleeding. After bleeding, your radiators should provide better heat to your rooms and also save you some money on your energy bills. You can bleed your radiators with a radiator key, and it is fairly straightforward to do.
Have a powerflush
Powerflushing can have a hugely positive impact on the efficiency of your central heating system. It’s a deep clean of your whole system and works by injecting water at high velocity into it to clear out the build-up of sludge and debris. Powerflushing must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
Check your boiler pressure
If the pressure in your boiler drops it will impact its performance and overall efficiency. The gauge on your boiler should sit at about 1.5 bar, but if it’s below this, the pressure has dropped to an unhealthy level. You can increase your boiler pressure yourself, using this simple guide.
Get your pipes insulated
Providing your pipes with some insulation means they’ll heat up quicker and therefore work more efficiently. This is called lagging, and you can carry it out yourself by buying the lagging foam tubes from a DIY store and fitting them around your pipes.
